Inspired by "He Is Coming", "Advance Wars", "Fire Emblem", and more.

This is a roguelite RPG where your goal is to attempt to create a viable character build that can take down the boss, or be forced to loop over and over again until you can. Explore the procedurally generated world, collect loot (for that loop), improve your stats (permanently), fight monsters, and prepare for the boss fight.

Terrain costs you varying amounts of movement and you only have so much time before the boss attacks you.

Controls:

Keyboard

  • - WASD / Arrow Keys: Move
  • - E/Enter: Interact/Accept
  • - 1/2/3: Take Reward 1/2/3
  • - ESC/Backspace: Reject

Controller:

  • - Left Analog Stick/Depad: Move
  • - A (Cross): Interact/Accept
  • - X/Y/B (Square/Triangle/Circle): Take Reward 1/2/3
  • - Start: Reject

Information about the stats:

HP: Your health, it can go up and down there is no max HP. So heals have no limit. If you reach 0 HP you die and redo the loop.

Armor: Flat damage reduction but is lost once used. In brackets is the Armor Regen, which is how much armor you regenerate after every fight.

Speed: decides who goes first in combat. If you have 2x the speed of the enemy (or vice versa) you get to attack twice (or they do). If you have 3x their speed you get to attack 3 times. To get additional attacks past that point you need specific items which increase the cap.

Strength: Half of your strength stat gets added as bonus damage. Some weapons also add your full Strength stat on top of that as damage.

Damage: This is your flat damage you will always do no matter what, but if you have other ways to do damage you can have it as low as 0!

Vision: How many tiles your character can see. Standing on mountains greatly increases this and lets you see over all terrain. Some items also increase your vision.

Recent bug fixes and changes:

  • You can now reset your run in the settings menu
  • Increased the delay of movement so accidentally moving twice (due to holding the button down) is less prone to happen.
  • Fixed incorrect stat being shown for the Big Stick
  • Fixed bug where your last Item was not properly carried over to the next loop (including special items like climbing gear or flippers).
  • Fixed possible softlock when fighting bosses which resulted in combat not progressing.
  • Fixed possible softlock when surrounded by difficult terrain (EG forests or mountains) with only 1 or 2 steps left.
  • Updated the 3d8 stat randomization to modify your stats by -18 to 18 instead of setting them. This is because setting your stats is horrible past the first couple loops.
  • You can now hover over the clock with your mouse to see behind it.

I enjoyed it quite a lot! Was hooked from the start and played it from the beginning to the end. For me, the main draw was how much there was to explore and see. I liked that were items that improved mobility and situational awareness as well buffing combat stats. I felt that the audio was decent, but could have been  more engaging and polished.

All in all, a solid Gamejam entry that you and your team should be proud of.

I actually really like this, maybe there should be some animations, but the idea and execution is so good

A rather interesting game.

I like that the different types of terrain impact the game quite a bit. The Looping theme is also done quite nicely, though not really that unique. Still, implementing a unique take on "Loop" is rather difficult as so much has already been done with it.

The art is quite unique and enjoyable, kinda reminds me of some of the flash games I used to play.

The music is also pretty fitting for the game (8-bit was a good choice for the gameplay here. The title screen music also feels rather welcoming and not too harsh on the ears/distracting from reading).

I just wish that there were a few more items that could define/make a build. Also the Max HP and perhaps even the Armor stat should also be able to be increased after a loop (like Strenght, Speed and so on keep their values, but HP does not). Though as it is a game jam, that would probably break the scope a bit too much.

Overall a pretty good job. I hope this game places rather highly.
